The synthetic absorbable surgical suture NEOSORB-
After implantation, the RAPID PGLA synthetic absorbable surgical suture (RPGLA) initially causes a mild inflammatory tissue reaction, followed by the gradual formation of a fibrous tissue capsule. The RAPID PGLA(RPGLA) suture is degraded by hydrolysis processes, where the copolymer decomposes to glycolic and lactic acid, and with a gradual decrease in its potency ,and is ultimately absorbed by the tissues.
The RAPID PGLA (RPGLA) suture has a residual strength of 50% after 5 days. All of the initial strength of the suture is lost within 10 to 30 days.
